Be-Leave™ is a call to action for the greening of our environment. It is both an exhortation and a statement that begins, "I Be-Leave™ I can make a difference by ..." Teachers, environmentalists, educators, etc. are encouraged to use the Leaf Critters® Be-Leave™ pins that feature the five signature Leaf Critters® for 2009 and showcase the Be-Leave™ statement. Give the pins to praise any student who can finish the statement with a true-to-life example of how they have helped to manage our environment in a way that promotes the greening of America and our world.

For example, Suzy might have planted a tree sapling (this is one of the Leaf Critters' most favorite ways to earn a Be-Leave™ pin!) Stewart might have begun to recycle at home and is encouraging the whole family to join in. Amy started composting the biodegradable parts of what her family normally puts in the trash bin. Leo is turning off lights that are not in use at home and Sally is learning how to care for the plants and trees in her yard to help them flourish and grow. All these activities help to keep our environment clean. Sid is picking up trash around his neighborhood and Jill is riding her bike to her friend's house three blocks away instead of asking Dad for a ride in the car. When students earn Be-Leave™ pins they can wear them, put them on their backpacks, or add a magnet to the back and use them as a refrigerator magnet. When you see a Be-Leave™ pin, get into the habit of asking the person who has one, how they got it. That's where the praise part comes in again and again and encourages further greening activities!
